I posted on FB that my challenge had begun and these are some of the comments I received:
Best book ever... Dull start my arse. just remember our nighttime walks as kids...as you read you'll realise that no one could capture Oxfordshire at night better than Tolkien. Those first few chapters for those of us lucky enough to be from the real shire are joy.
Slow to start, but lyrical and wonderful. Savour every word - by the time you finish it you'll want more and more and more...
good luck. But be sure to stick with it. It has a very dull start, but by about a 3rd of the way through, it really picks up!
