Why am I doing this.......

Well I fear I may be mad and set myself a task I may regret..

Yesterday was world book day (4th March) and my daughter - lets call her "Eggs" who is Six had to take her favourite book into school to share. Well what book did Eggs decide to take -"the gruffalo", "monster at the back of the book" or "maybe if you give a mouse a cookie" no - she decides to take "the encyclopedia of aliens" this was her Dads favourite book when he was 10! Eggs has always seen & read books that have no direct relevance to her age - when we go to the library she does not head just to the Children section she looks for reference & larger books - not because she is super smart (she is perfect to me) but because, I believe, she has a much older brother - lets call him "Bacon" so she reads her books and whatever he reads, a book is just a book to her, it holds new adventure & information and have no relevance to her age or understanding.  This got me thinking as we get older do we pigeon hole books by age, gender, religion, and does this mean I have missed out on a bunch of really great classics?

I know that for some time I only really read nice easy "girly" books and to be fair I have been choosing these by their cover rather than content!  So in a mad moment I downloaded the BBC Top 100 book list and have vowed to read them all - not watch the films BUT really read them...this seemed like a great plan until this morning when book No1 appeared "Lord of the Rings" all 1008 pages (I thought the Bible was gonna be the tough one)
So here goes......Page 1 --maybe I will see you on the other side?
